GentleCure™ Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy (IG-SRT) is the non-surgical, gold standard treatment for nonmelanoma skin cancers, which are the most commonly diagnosed skin cancers in the United States. It’s no wonder that the demand for this treatment has increased so much that Dermatology Specialists of Georgia’s location in LaGrange, Georgia is expanding their IG-SRT services in February of 2024 by adding a second machine to meet patient demand.
IG-SRT is a surgery-free, safe treatment that has a 99% cure rate in basal and squamous cell skin cancers. This treatment, performed by a skilled radiation therapist in office under the supervision of a dermatologist, uses ultrasound technology to see cancer on the screen and review the progress made throughout the course of each treatment until there are no visible signs of skin cancer in the area being treated.
With no anesthesia, cutting, bleeding, stitching, or scarring, this treatment is a highly beneficial option for many patients with nonmelanoma skin cancers. IG-SRT can be especially helpful for skin cancers in cosmetically sensitive areas, such as the head and neck, as well as for patients with contraindications to surgery, like cardiac conditions, bleeding and clotting disorders, and other factors. This treatment does not involve any downtime, restrictions to movement and activities, or direct wound care throughout the flexible treatment course, allowing patients to continue their normal lifestyle and level of activity. Individual treatment sessions are short, lasting only about 15 minutes. Average treatment plans typically consist of multiple treatments per week during a 4-7 week period.
With the addition of a second IG-SRT machine—the Sensus SRT-100 Vision—in LaGrange, GA, Dermatology Specialists will be able to bring this treatment option to more patients in the community suffering from basal and squamous cell skin cancers. Lynne Eggert, a radiation therapist with over 40 years of experience including clinical, practical, academic, administration, and university program directorship, currently offers IG-SRT in LaGrange under the supervision of board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist Dr. Myles Jerdan. Eggert says that her goal is to provide patients with a painless treatment option and a high success rate as well as to “radiate” hope every day.
Partnering with SkinCure Oncology, the world leader in providing a comprehensive model for the delivery of image-guided superficial radiation therapy, Dermatology Specialists currently offers the GentleCure™ IG-SRT experience in 11 of their locations throughout the southeast, including:
