What is Hirsutism?

Hirsutism is a condition that causes excess hair to grow on certain parts of the body and mainly affects women. This excess hair growth usually occurs on the face, abdomen, back, inner thighs and buttocks, and it is caused by the excess production of male hormones called androgens.

Hirsutism can run in families and affects nearly 10% of women at some point during their lives. That’s why our dermatologists begin by focusing on what’s causing this condition first and then discussing your options for controlling this unwanted hair growth.
