Dr. Hammel brings to Dermatology Specialists of Georgia an extensive background in dermatological research and specialized training in surgical dermatology, including the use of advanced plastic surgery repair techniques. A native of Marietta, Georgia, Dr. Hammel graduated summa cum laude from Georgia Tech with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Hammel received his medical doctorate in 2011 from Emory University School of Medicine. He then trained for two years in plastic surgery at Southern Illinois University and completed dermatology residency at the University of Iowa. Dr. Hammel additionally completed a two-year dermatological clinical research fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago as well as a Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch. His research includes work with Mohs micrographic surgery as well as the medical treatment of basal cell carcinoma, severe plaque psoriasis and eczema, and acne.
Dr. Hammel is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatological Surgery. He is also among the first in the nation to be double certified in both dermatology and Mohs Micrographic surgery.
